The
45FRE automatic transmission in most of our
Dakota trucks is one of the most advanced
engineered transmissions of our time. Harnessing
the power of the 4.7 engine requires you keep
your transmission in excellent condition.

On
this update we take a real good look into
"our" trucks first transmission fluid
and filter change. We'll examine "our"
test truck's filter and fluid and see how well it
has held up against some of the most extreme
towing and driving conditions an owner will
encounter.

Along
with reviewing the 2.5.. 3.9 and 5.9 transmission
fluid level check procedure.. we'll point out the
special requirements of the 4.7 engine.. also the
right filters and fluids for the 45RFE.. when to
change them and where to get them.. as well as
how much transmission fluid will be needed.

We'll
walk you through each step of the process.. with
high definition images that will blow away any
service manual you could find or purchase. It's
for those of us that prefer to.. do it ourselves.
Weather you have a garage or not.

We'll
also take a look and point out why some owners
may be having transmission shift problems arising
after having their transmission serviced.. how to
make sure this problem doesn't happen to you if
you take your truck in for service.. and why
doing it yourself.. may just give your
transmission the longest life possible.
Weather
you do your own service or have the dealer do
it.. this update is going to be the best and most
complete 45FRE transmission maintenance article
you are going to find or read. Remember.. no body
loves your truck.. more than you... with the
possible exception of us.
